The exhibition titled “Unbuilding: Remnants, Devicings, Chancings, Hollowings, Leavings” has been coordinated by Ece Duran, Bahar Avanoğlu, Ipek Avanoğlu. It took place from September 5 to September 28 at Versus Art Project. Unbuilding: Remnants, Devicings, Chancings, Leavings is a gathering of a series of  architectural works by 10 international artists-architects*.
This gathering intends to draw out and celebrate alternative and critical architectural practices that are not necessarily determined by building design and construction. Diverging from this generally accepted notion of architecture as buildings, this gathering draws our attention to the imaginal body of architecture at contemplative thresholds that offer other embodied ways to engage with the world. It presents individually or collaboratively sought stories, acts, operations, processes to explore a conversation on these thresholds.
The works open up ritualistic, poetic and critical acts of architecture, and oscillate between losing and surviving, between rising and ruining. They device their own (non-)instruments between intimacy and foreignness, between immediacy and obliqueness, and lay with chances. They invite the audience to engage with these methodologies that offer alternative states of knowing and experiencing.
The plurality of the voices of the works is essentially important for its criticality. For this reason, each artist/architect has her/his/their own story to tell.
Participants: Adrianos Efthymiadis, Andreas Nonneman, Bahar Avanoğlu, Charlotte Erckrath, Ece Duran, Fırat Erdim, İpek Avanoğlu, Marc Leschelier, Melike Beşik Sam Lynch, Setareh Roozbahani
